And what imagination started the wonderful creation of “The Mauka Makai…Voyage of Discovery” on September 20, 2003. Under the twinkling stars, the Hawai‘i State Art Museum was transformed into a rare piece of artwork. More than 550 people dined on the museum lawn after enjoying hors d’oeurves, the museum’s collection by artists of Hawai‘i and the extensive silent auction. On stage, Master of Ceremonies Kimo Kahoano charmed the crowd and The Galliard String Quartet and Na Leo Pilimehana showed off their musical talents. 
More than $80,000 was raised for cancer research in Hawai‘i. Mahalo to the many companies and individuals who donated funds and services.
