| Mura leads Blackthorne toward the house.
The elderly Gardener looks up from his raking, then beams and bows at Blackthorne and Mura. Blackthorne bows back and the Gardener bows even deeper three times. Blackthorne doesn't know how to respond, but Mura gestures for him to move on. Blackthorne starts toward the house and Mura tugs on his sleeve to stop him. There is a large wooden tub of steaming water the woman standing near it. She bows as Blackthorne and Mura enter. Blackthorne stares at the tub for a moment, then he turns back toward the door. Blackthorne:"No, I don't". Mura:"Iye. Kirei ni nara nakereba narimasen, ofuro ni hairi nasai". Blackthorne:"Like hell! A bath'll put you foul sick". Blackthorne reaches for the door, but Mura blocks his way. |

| Blackthorne:"Get out of my way".
Mura:"Dozo". Blackthorne:"I warned you". Blackthorne starts to push Mura aside and, almost effortlessly, with a flowing motion, Mura sends Blackthorne flying halfway across the room. Blackthorne lands heavily and lies there, stunned. Mura comes closer, kneeling alongside then calmly putting one iron-hard finger tea nerve center in Blackthorne's neck. Blackthorne screams in pain and Mura takes his finger away. Blackthorne:"Good sweet Jesus". Mura:"Ofuro ni hairare masuka? Blackthorne:"Yes. Yes. Hai!" |

| Father Sebastio:"You must great him. Say Konnichi
wa, Omi".
Blackthorne:"Konnichi wa, Omi". Father Sebastio:"You must say 'Omi-san!" Blackthorne:"Why?" Father Sebastio:"San means 'honorable.' It is an insult if you leave it off. Say it quickly." Blackthorne:"Konnichi wa, Omi-san". Father Sebastio:"You must get dressed. Quickly". |

| A curtained palanquin rests on the ground,
four bearers in brief
loincloths squatting beside it outside the walls of a house. Omi, followed by Blackthorne and Father Sebastio are coming down the street Mura discreetly ten paces back. The moment the four bearers see Omi they scramble to their knees and bow mightily. Omi barely nods at them, about to walk past -- when a beautiful girl comes out. She wears a peach-colored kimono with a wide sash or gold. She sees Omi and, with a smile, she bows. Omi:"Konnichi wa, Kiku. Itsumo nagara outsukushi desu ne". Kiku:"Iye, mottai noo gazaimasu". Blackthorne:"Konnichi wa". Kiku:"Konnichi wa". Omi:"Koi". Omi continues walking. Blackthorne follows. Blackthorne:"Was that his wife?" Father Sebastio:"Wife? No". |

| Hiro-Hatsu and Yabu turn as Omi leads Blackthorne,
Father Sebastio and Mura toward them. A few paces away, Omi and Mura kneel and bow but Hiro-Matsu is taring at Blackthorne. Blackthorne hesitates, then he kneels and bows as low as Omi. Hiro-Hatsu half-bows in response. Blackthorne rises and starts to follow Omi
until he sees that
Blackthorne:"No -- I'm not going on a slaver!"
Blackthorne turns and bows to Hiro-Matsu. Rodrigues grins at him. |
