Omi is leading six-Samurai toward the cellar hatch-their kimonos 
blooded by the dying sun. The Samurai guard at the hatch 
pulls it open.Vinck looks at the ladder, then very slowly he
starts toward the ladder. Roper begins to pray.
Suddenly, Blackthorne moves to the foot of the ladder.
Blackthorne:"No! No one is walking to death without a fight!
Ginsel:"But we agreed".
Blackthorne:"I didn't".
Vinck:"It's all right, Pilot. I, we did agree and it was fair. 
It's God's will. It's..."
Blackthorne:"You're not going without a fight. No one is."
Meatsukker:"Get away from the ladder, Pilot! 
Or you'll get us all killed".

 

 

 
Blackthorne tries to dislodge the ladder, then the lead Samurai 
stabs downward with his sword. The second two Samurai are about to attack Blackthorne when, suddenly, Vinck throws himself at them -- pummeling and pounding with his powerful fists. 
Then, almost as one, the rest of the crew leaps into the fight.
Blackthorne hammers the lead Samurai to the ground and several 
of the other men begin kicking him. Blackthorne struggles back 
to the ladder, but before he can pull it down, three more Samurai 
leap down through the hatch.

The men have been backed against the wall and are pinned there 
by the Samurai swords -- no one daring to move now. 
Now, arrogantly, Omi climbs down the ladder into the cellar. 
He glances down at Blackthome -then, as Pieterzoon is closest, 
Omi takes his arm and jerks him toward the ladder.
Pieterzoon comes through the open hatch and the Samurai guard 
throws him to the ground. Pieterzoon lies there, whimpering 
as Omi comes out of the cellar.

There is a great iron cauldron ahead, firewood in place beneath it.
Pieterzoon is mouth moves soundlessly for a moment, then:
Pieterzoon:"No -- oh, God, no".
Roper:"What will we do with him?
Maetsukker:"Kill him". 
Blackthome:"No. Maybe we can trade him for something".

Suddenly, there is the sound of Pieterzoon screaming and screaming. Vinck brings his hands up to cover his face.
Vinck:"God in Heaven". 

 

 
Father Sebastio and four Samurai are walking toward the cellar hatch.
Father Sebastio:"Pilot you are to come up. You are to come up alone".
Blackthorne:"What do they want with me?
Father Sebastio:"I don't know. But you must come up at once".
Blackthorne:"What happened to my man, what happened to Pieterzoon?"
Father Sebastio:"He, he's dead. May God have mercy on his soul.
Pilot, you must come up".
Blackthorne:"What the hell do you want with me?"
Father Sebastio:"Mind your manners, Pilot. I warn you".
Blackthorne:"Tell this poxy bastard that I'm a lord in my own country. Tell him they have no right to treat us this. Tell him!"

 

 
Father Sebastio:"Omi-san says he does not care if you are a king in your own country. Here you live at Lord Yabu's whim. You and all your men.
Blackthorne:"Tell him to go to hell!"
Father Sebastio:"Omi-san says that you will be given a bath. 
And food and drink. If you behave, you will not be put back into the pit."
Blackthorne:"What about my men?"
Father Sebastio:"They will stay below."
Blackthorne:"Tell him to go to hell!"

 

 
Father Sebastio:"Unless you agree to behave,
another of your men will be brought up.
Omi-san says there is plenty of firewood."
Blackthorne:"What does he mean -- behave?"
Father Sebastio:"It means to obey. To obey totally".
Blackthorne:"Tell him I piss on him and his whole country and his Lord Yabu.
Tell him exactly!"

Blackthorne turns as the Samurai drag Croocq toward the cauldron.
Blackthorne:"No, You can't".
Father Sebastio:"Do you agree to behave?"
Blackthorne:"Yes, I agree".
Father Sebastio:"He wants you to answer directly to him. 
The Japanese for 'yes' is hai. He says, will you obey all orders?

 

 
Blackthorne:"Hai. As far as I can".
Father Sebastio:"Omi-san says, lie down. Immediately".
"He says he did not insult you personally and there was no 
cause for you to insult him. But you must be taught manners. 
Do you understand?"
Blackthorne:"Yes -- tell him I understand".
Father Sebastio:"You must tell him yourself".
Blackthorne:"Hai".

 

 
Blackthorne's whole body reacts, stiffening as a stream of urine 
hits him on the back. For an instant, it seems that he will leap for 
Omi's throat -- then steels himself, holding himself motionless.

 

 
Father Sebastio:"Omi-san says it is bad manners to -- 
to say what you said. Very bad. Especially when you are unarmed, powerless and not prepared to allow your friends or family to perish first.
Father Sebastio:"He says, do you understand?"
Blackthorne:"Hai".
Father Sebastio:"He says you will get up".
Blackthorne:"What about the boy?"
Father Sebastio:"Is the boy all right?"
Blackthorne:"He's alive."
Father Sebastio:"Omi-san says you will go with Mura.
You will obey his orders.
He also says that the lives of your crew depend on your behavior. 
If you fail to obey, they will suffer. Is that clear?
Omi-san says that since it is so difficult to say your name. 
From now on you will be called  'Anjin'. That means' Pilot.' 
Omi-san wants you to know that this is not meant as an insult.
