Tribute to Richard Chamberlain

Alvito comes up behind him, the Acolytes standing several paces back. Alvita:"For a moment I did not recognize you, Pilot-Major".

Blackthorne:"God curse you and all priests!"
Alvito:"May God forgive your blasphemy".
Blackthorne:"What are you doing here?
Alvito:"I might ask you the same question".
Blackthorne:"You'll get no answers from me, priest".
Alvito:"I pray that your eyes will be opened to God's infinite mercy'.
Blackthorne:"Mine are open. Yours are fogged".
Alvito:"The swords suit you, Pilot.
I heard that you saved Lord Toranaga's life and I thank you for that".
Blackthorne:"How could you hear of that?"
Alvito:"Hardly a thing that happens to Lord Toranaga is not the
subject of rumor and legend. Coming from Port Nimazu,
I heard the story many times".

Toranaga:"Ten no miko, Go-nijo Tennoo ni kawari, mata Go-tairoo no kaigi no meirei ni yori ......."

Blackthorne:"What is it"
Alvito:"Lord Toranaga has been ordered to Osaka by the Council of Regents".
Blackthorne:"When?"
Alvito:"Now, Pilot - - now".
Mariko:"Lord Toranaga said that he would give his answer tomorrow".

Mariko:"Please do not look at me like that, Anjin-san".
Blackthorne:"I cannot help it".
Mariko:"Lord Toranaga -- has ordered my husband to make peace with me. My husband is preparing a cha no yu -- a tea ceremony".
Blackthorne:"What-are you going to do?"
Mariko:"I shall try -- try with all my heart to obey".

Buntaro is standing in the small, exquisite garden -
a path of flagstone leading to the house- He looks around, then he takes his swords and places them carefully aside before he strips off his kimono and begins washing and scrubbing the flagstones -- working with great intensity, making sure that each stone is spotless.

A tear starts slowly down Mariko's cheek.
Buntaro picks up a sprig of wild thyme and catches her tear on the leaf -- staring down at it.
Mariko looks at him for a long moment, then she shakes her head. Buntaro's expression hardens slightly, then he bows.

Mariko gets up and moves to che shoji. She slides it open
and walks out, closing the shoji softly.
Buntaro stares down at the tear on the leaf -- then he places the sprig gently on the fire. The pure green leaf begins to twist and char. The tear vanishes with a hiss.
Buntaro (continuing, to himself) Anjin-san!
