Tribute to Richard Chamberlain

No one moves - - then Blackthorne opens his kimono. His right hand begins to move toward the knife. He lifts the knife.
Blackthorne:"I've had a good life".

A slight smile relaxes his face even more, then -- as if his soul is crying for eternal silence he shouts and his hands plunge the knife toward his heart. Instantly, Omi leaps forward, grabbing for the blade using all his strength to stop the ferocious thrust, the very point of the knife just cutting into Blackthorne's chest.

Finally, Omi manages to pull the knife away, out of Blackthorne's hands. Mariko and Yabu haven't moved and now Blackthorne just sits there, his eyes totally blank, a thin rivulet of blood trickling down his chest. Yabu blinks -- the sweat suddenly beading on his face.

From outside there is suddenly the sound of a light rain.
Mariko leans toward Blackthorne.
Mariko:"Anjin-san? Lord Yabu says that whatever you
learn will be enough. The village will not be burned.
Do you hear me Anjin-san?"
Blackthorne:"The rain is fine, isn't it?"
Mariko:"You should rest now, Anjin-san.
You must not be sorry, Anjin-san. Tonight you are reborn".

Blackthorne is lying on the futon, motionless in his sleep.
After a moment, his eyes open -- and he looks slowly around
the room. Then he sits up. The panel slides open and Fujiko
is kneeling there. Fujiko lifts a tray with a teapot and cup on it.
Fujiko comes into the room and kneels next to Blackthorne
pouring a cup of tea and handing it to him. He takes a sip.
Fujiko indicates the futon, she places both hands to the side
of her face, tilting her head slightly.
Blackthorne:"Hai. I slept very well. Domo".
