There are sixty heavily armed --Brown Samurai standing in
neat lines -- porters and kaga-men arranging the large
amount of baggage, eight of them standing alongside the two
covered palanquins -- Yabu and Buntaro supervising
the well-disciplined contingent.
Blackthorne:"What will happen when we get to Yedo?"
Mariko:"Oh, it will be very busy. Everyone will be making
arrangements for Lord Toranaga's return."
Blackthorne:"When is he coming?"
Mariko:"Perhaps in several days --
after the meeting of the Council of Regents."
Blackthorne:"What will happen to me?"
Mariko:"That is' for Lord Toranaga to decide."

Kiri comes out of the castle, a voluminous cloak covering
her travelling kimono, a vast, wide-brimmed hat tied under her chin. Sazuko is walking with her -- moving slowly because of her advanced pregnancy. Yabu and Buntaro move toward them.

Mariko sees Buntaro walking toward them - - and she bows.
Buntaro takes a step back, then his eyes move to Blackthorne
and Blackthorne bows.
Mariko: "Buntaro requests that you walk beside my palanquin".
Blackthorne: "Who is he?"
Mariko: "Lord Buntaro, Lord of Sakura.
He is the son of Hiro-Matsu-san. He is my husband.

Blackthorne turns to her, but Mariko cannot meet his look.
She bows and moves away.
